Getting more tubs blue zoos. Here is what they look like. My own colony is getting bigger and bigger. I think it has nearly doubled its polyps but I am getting another frag colony so that i can get it to grow and sell/trade to you guys in Chico.

I think I will have plenty of frags for all in Chico because I will have two colonies going and putting lots of rubble rock next to it so they can move over. The Tubs also grows fairly fast under the right conditions!

LOL, patience people! Takes some time for these Tubs Blue zoos to grow but they can grow fairly fast! I'll try and put a bunch of rubble rock near the zoos so they can move over.

Good score Mike. Whoever tank that is they have a few different dendros. The Tubs are nice, I'm gonna see if I can get a few from a local guy by me. That's fungia is sick!

I got some cool stuff last night too at Reef Connections, Jody you rock!!!

I got a yellow tang, a flame angel fish, and a mini lobster who is sooooooooo cool. They are all happy little fishies in their new homes.

I will get pics on as soon as I can find the stupid camera.

Hair algae is going away, the Tang ate alot of it last night while we were sleeping.

And we now are the proud owners of a 12 gallon nano and can't wait to see what we are going to put in it.

Happy day everyone.

Anthony, thanks a bunch man! Still can't beat that 12 head dendro that you bought! I'm gonna have to try and pass you up! I'm gonna try and find some balanos, rhizos, etc to beat your collection. LOL:D :D

Good score melissa, don't put the lobster in your reef.

Congrats Melissa on the Fish & Lobster- I too would add the lobster with caution and only after doing sufficent research. I think a 55 might be a bit small for him soon and you might have to unload your tank to get him out when he gets to big or has eaten everything else. I'm not sure myself as I haven't done research for lobsters in home aquaria. I've seen some purple lobsters at depth in Belize but not very frequently.

Glad to hear the Yellow tang is feasting on the Debresia!!!! YEAH. I took out a yellow one when I added a purple tang which I lost after a move - sad day. I missed my yellow one when I had it as my Scopas Tang didn't even touch it. In fact, I never see him nipping at the rocks the way I saw the yellow. Good purchase!!! Flame Angels are cool just make sure you watch it to ensure it is happy with what you feed it. They can be persnickety (love that word).

I finally lost one of my outcasted blue-green chromis this morning. Down to only two left. This is the only fish I've been able to pull out after I know it died. Usually they just dissappear. This one was at the top by the overflow so nothing got to it. So I may be interested in getting a few more Chromis soon.

I wonder who in Chico is going to get the Helfrichi firefish? They aren't cheap but sure are beautiful.

Melissa, take some pics of your new fish, lobster, and a full tank shot when you get the chance.

Got my corals in yesterday!!

Red/orange fungia is doing well
Tubs Blue zoos are doing well
Small dendro is doing well
4 polyp ATL unknown dendro is doing well
LE Chameleon Paly I got as a freeby is doing well!

I also ordered two Phoenix 14k bulbs from Hellolights.com. They shipped same day and I got free shipping PLUS 5% RC discount!
The bulbs were 49.95 each and free shipping. That is a crazy price. From now on I'm going to buy all my lighting needs from hellolights.

For those that have MH bulbs, Hellolights has free shipping for MH bulbs and they sell them cheaper than anyplace out there!!! They also have T5s and PC bulbs they sell which are cheaper than any other place.

I need to borrow a digital camera preferably at least a 7.2 megapixel. I was borrowing someone's but lately haven't asked them.

Don't worry, pics will come soon.

Got my Phoenix 14k bulbs about a week ago but only opened the box today!

Anyways, installed the phoenix and it makes the tank almost the same as the stock 14k I got from the sunpod. Only difference I see is that the tank is MUCH brighter. I think I might have partially fried the bulb when I installed it. I heard a bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz then the bulb goes off. I take the unit down and have the pointy part of the bulb point downwards toward the tank and it turned on and worked fine after that. Maybe I did some kind of damage already to the bulb.

Interesting. Don't know what's wrong with the bulb. Maybe it wasn't in all the way and had to arc (buzz) to connect until it went out. Also, I understand that bulbs are very sensitive to fingerprint disturbances on the exterior.

Any new bulb should be brighter simply because the most recent MH bulb study showed nearly a 10% loss in PAR intensity over the first 3 months and then a gradual change to about 80ish% over the remaining two years.

Anyway, it sucks having a new bulb that broke especially when the cost that much!!! Good luck in getting any reimbursment. I busted one of new my PC bulbs one time because I handled it at ends and broke the connecting point between the two bulb lengths.

I don't think the bulb broke though. It still fires so it should be alright. I was so afraid I had broke it though.

3 of the dendros I got from reefscience spawned!!!!!

It was about 7 am and there was some sunlight penetrating into the tank. Then all of a sudden, I see one dendro open its mouth and out comes a bunch of white small eggs! Then the other two dendros near it did the same thing!! The fish ate a ton of the eggs and the gorgonias might have got some but I think some may be in the fuge and if so, maybe in a few weeks I will see some baby dendros!! WOOHOO

Usually they will bud out babies but I guess they can spawn too.

missyshrout

That is soooooooooooo cool!

Can't wait to hear what happens next. Maybe you will have Dendros for all of us.

mikekman
09/03/2007, 05:21 PM
Hopefully I can get more babies! I have some dendros that aren't doing so well because of high nitrates from my 14 gallon biocube tank. I have transferred them to the 24 gallon aquapod and hopefully they do better.

Very cool. I hope they were spawning and not just letting out waste :D LOL...

Good luck with any spawns.

Here is a pic of the dendros I got from reefscience a weel ago. 7 total heads. They are a bit undernourished in the pic but they are now eating really well.

Very pretty! What is the blue and yellow thing?

pugman
09/11/2007, 10:41 PM
The yellow and "blue" thing is clove polyp. The lights are really blue in that pic. Even the sand looks blue. They normally are greenish and yellow. Generally you can purchase them brown and they will turn that color. I bought six good size pieces and two are starting to turn that color already. Red coral looks like a micromussa.

mikekman
09/11/2007, 11:18 PM
The red micro I'm gonna feed it to get it into a nice sized colony. Should look really nice.

The clove polyps should look great once they reproduce more and spread out. I have seen some crazy looking clove polyps at some of the online stores.....this one had a nice orange to it. Others I have seen have green on it, yellow, etc.
It should compliment my blue clove polyps, once I get this one I will put it next to the blue ones.

Well I have plenty of time to feed them now!

mikekman
10/06/2007, 04:19 PM
Rob, dends are very fun to feed. If its healthy, they will grab mysis or whatever you feed them as long as its not too big or heavy and it will shove it into its greedy mouth!

My balano was able to grab a large piece of mysis a few inches away with its tentacles and then slowly reel it in. Really neat to watch.

If you can post pictures of your dend that would be great.

Oh yeah Rob, that atlantis unknown dendro that i got, well here is what it'll look like in a few years:eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

Its not a dendrophyllia arbuscula because I own a arbuscula, me and a few other guys are going to try and find out what the ID of it is.

Ming sold the entire colony to a friend of mine. Before Ming sold the entire thing, I got a piece of it and so did another guy I know.

Nice pieces Mike. Did you get that Fungia from the 1st post? It's pretty sweet. Hope all your frags grow out nicely for ya. I don't think you'll find a better deal on a Rhizo than th e one Captive has right now.

mikekman
10/07/2007, 12:21 PM
qckwzrd, I'm getting the d. wellsi sometime next week. I will for sure let you know when I get it. Mike @ captive sells the micro balano/encrusting dend.........you could always ask Justin thats where I got mine from. If you can wait a bit, I can get you a frag. Mine is growing fast. ygpm

Echidna -I really want the rhizo from captive and its the cheapest price around I've seen at 349:eek1: :eek1: I think you should get it for yourself though. Yeah I did get that fungia! Its nice and the colors are great on it, but the same guy had a BLOOD RED fungia as well but he didn't want to sell that one! I think it would have cost me over 200+ for the blood red one if he decided ever to sell. ygpm

I picked up a small neon orange fungia too. But something is still troubling me Mike...how the hell do you fit all these things you buy into a nano tank? And when are you going to frag that Cesp for me?

mikekman
10/09/2007, 08:55 PM
Twisted, my tank is mostly dendros LOL!:D :D Only a few small spots for stuff like cesp, palys, etc. Most of the space has been taken up by dends. I might start a 40 gal breeder tank with just dendros and other non photosynthetics but not too sure yet.

I got a piece of rubble with 2 small cesp colonies growing if you want it. You and your neighbor could split the rock and each get a cesp colony. You got pm.
