Hi, I work on a local fish store and my boss say to a customer that the black sand of Caribe Sea dosnt works, and he wants to sell another sand; the points its that the black sand buy to us, and now my boss wanna sell another and and dont think is fair, can any1 tell me is this is true? (the problem of the customer is that the sand never looks clean, always have somethig on it)
I like to know if its posible to put something on the black sand so that make it easy the cleaning job
Thanks

I've been using the black CaribSea sand in my 58 for two years now. "Works" just fine. Never looks clean though. Not like it was fresh out of the bag.

I don't think any sand thats been in a tank for a while will look as good as it does right out of the bag...maybe this customer has unreasonable desires...
I have no experience with the black sand....maybe there is some truth to what your boss was saying. Maybe because of the grain size or shape it isn't that good for a DSB....just a thought. On the other hand, maybe there is a better mark up on the other sand so he tried to push it on customers..who knows....

Well you see.. it sits on reefcentral when it should be working. Until the boss comes in of course ;)

I'll assume (or hope) LFSemployed is not a native English speaker-- that grammar goes way beyond poor typing skills.
By "doesn't work" the bossman may be referring to the fact it does not buffer Ph or contain the mineral nutrients that aragonite does, which is true, but doesn't make it "unsuitable" for use in a reef tank-- many people use it with no ill effects, as shown here. I think the Black Sand looks awesome when it's clean, but dirty black sand looks way worse than dirty white sand.
I'm guessing the boss can sell whatever his choice is. :) Personally I love the looks of 2 parts white and 1 part black.

Thanks Guys,
First, I owned all of u an apologize cuz my english it´s really bad, but I think that the people with an IQ bigger than their nitrate leves could understand me; in second, TheMcs, I like to know how often do u make the maintenance to u tank.
My boss say that the sand can´t keep the waste generate on the tank, so that waste can be removed on the maintenance.
Thanks for helping me
