anyone have any tips on catching a butterfly fish out of a 220gal. tank..... hoping i dont have to take out a whole lot of live rock.

a small hook and a worm.. lol a friend did this with a fish he could not catch.

haha yeah but i just dont want to hurt him i just dont want him to eat any corals.... he came with the tank i got...... i think he is either a kleines or a japanese butterfly.

if ya use a hook..you should file off the barb,,,makes it easy to get him off the hook without injury

if that really bothers you, just drain the tank down. Catch the fish and put the water back in.

Does not take very long and makes fish really easy to catch without moving rock out.

hhaha except it has a big vamingii, rabbit fish, blue tang, maroon clown, and flam hawkfish..... i want to keep them and dont want to stress them too bad.

not to mention i dont have anywhere to put 220 gallons of water.

You could make a fish trap. If you do a search on the subject in RC you might be able to find plans. I know there is somthing on this subject on melevsreef.com
