I had a little, but after adding garfs grunge it spread like wildfire.

how long has your tank been set up?

That film could be diatoms, dinoflagellates, or cyanobacteria. Most likely, it's a combination. The tank might get back to a better-looking state on its own, but cutting back on feeding for a bit might help.

the tank has been set up for about 3 months, and I think I have been over feeding a bit.

I went through the same thing at about the same time. It went away after a while. I did change feeding habits and put macro algae in the sump.

Chaeto doesn't need much light at all..what do you plan on using to light your sump?
most people run the light over the Chaeto opposite the main tanks lights, this helps to prevent drops in Ph during the time that the main tanks lights are off

I have a coralife aqualight mini. 1 - 9w 10k and 1 - 9w actinic. Would be great if I could use this instead of buying something else. Is t good enough or do I need a grow lamp?

I've got chaeto growing fairly well under a little t5no light, right around 9 watts or so. I'd think the aqualight would be fine, especially if you changed out the actinic for another 10k. If you could find a 'daylight' (6500) bulb, that might be even better. As a matter of fact, I've been thinking about changing over to that kind of setup myself.

I can get 10k or 6500k bulbs for this fixture. What would be better 1 of each or 2 - 6500k.

If you can get them, probably the 6500k. Actually, I think that's the 'Freshwater' version of the aqualight. That spectrum matches the bulb that melev had success with a while back.

I checked online, I can get them easily. They are actually 6700k but that's close enough.

Check out this bulb. I use one and it works wonders. You will have to buy a work light at home depot or lowes($6).
