I was thinking about using two part for chemisty needs and was wondering if anyone has any reliable methods for dosing these. Can an aqualifter pump work well if automated or should I just stick to manually adding these. I don't have a huge demand for calc/alk right now and wasn't sure if you have to dose every day.

You should manually do it for a few weeks and test constantly. This will give you an idea of what you need. Then you can automate it. Also its probably a good idea to add magnesium as well. All 3 compliment each other.

I would reccomend a liquid doser, they work well and deliver exact measurements. They can be a bit expensive, but another great investment to automate for less maintenance. I use the aquamedic reef doser on my 75 gallon tank, 3 pump system, and love it. I have the exact measurements delivered. The alk/ ca test consistent, even after not doing a water change for 3 weeks. I also use a aqualifter to make up ro/di water on my 20 gallon tank for evaporation loss. So, not much residue build up from calcium or alk, so pretty reliable, you might have to adjust too frquently for exact measurements. Worth a shot though....Good luck.....

I do it manually and have a very ghetto method that works reasonably well for me!

I purchased two pitchers (like, for drinks) that have these plungers built in. I measure out 8 days' worth of Ca and Alk (one per jug, obviously). Every night, I mix it up with the plunger and add a cup of each (30 minutes or so apart).

I tested continually for a few weeks, and my levels went up and then stayed constant at about 425 Ca & 10.8 dKH.
