Well I though maybe i would start a thread of my set up... things are always changing and never finished...so thats why it might not look done in most picture.s. but here it is...

a 84x36x24 reef BB lots of tangs... just lost all my sps to AEFW then a nitrate spike.. to fix the nitrate issue. i built a 12x4x30" tall lagoon in the basement and filled a 10x4 area of it with 6" of sand.. this turned into a shark and ray tank.. I have a yellow ray and Epualette shark in there now.. so here are a few pics

here is the skimmer i built for the system...chamber is 48" tall and 21" diameter. the riser is 8" diameters and 15" tall.. driven by a Dart Needle wheel and Ailta 40 Air pump

thank you.... oh and FYI the skimmer is another about 80 gallons.. I am planning on hooking up a 55 gallon drum with a 4" drain for a surge device once i find some really good plans...so there should be some nice wave action in the lagoon...

What do you do about humidity in the basement?

Black71gp
08/16/2007, 04:57 PM
mangroves are in there now.. i have 25 pods in there from FL...

That fan is no longer there.. there is a new one attached...

Humidity is just a LARGE fan blowing outside right now.. stays within normal ranges... I have two 6" ducts that are being installed to suck the air out as well......

Was your tank always bb.I am setting up my 300 and I will use about 2 to 3 inches of sand.I will also make a dsb in my sump.Sump will be a 125 or a 150 gal tank.I will see.Maybe I will use more than one tank for a sump.

Black71gp
08/16/2007, 06:12 PM
it had about 1" of sand in.. but with all the flow from one end it all blew to the other.. so i got fed up and took it all out....

Yes the sand storm look is on my mind.I will try to aim my cl away from the bottom but I think it will happen. Some fish like to dig.

"Go big or go home!" is an understatement! That is the mother of all skimmers.
I think I may be even more jealous about Woodward though, wish I could be there!

Sweet tank and Lagoon. if we had basements in Florida i would be in trouble..Nice keep the pics coming. What do you use ofr filtration on the lagoon?

Black71gp
08/26/2007, 05:41 AM
lol... i bet.. one of the reasons i probaly would nto live in FL... no basements.. I gotta have one...

the lagoon is the filtration for my 315 reef...lol.... there is 6-7 inches of sand in the 10x4 area. live rock and the skimmer which holds around 100 gallons... before the lagoon having nitrate issues in my reef like 70-90 or so... after the lagoon as of a few weeks ago under 20 have not checked since then.... probabaly lower now...

love the lagoon!! such a creative idea! if u want a real aggressive eel go with a hawaiian dragon eel. very aggressive but cost around $800. good luck with everything

Black71gp
