Wondering if I should drill a 1.5" drain hole at the center of my 29g AGA backwall or at the side. I was planning on cutting up a PVC pipe to use as the overflow box.

I feel that putting it at the side makes the tank look better but i don't know. I don't want a PVC pipe seen at the center.

PVC is one of the quickest things to get completely covered with coralline algae so it's only a matter of time till you won't even notice it being a pipe so much.

for best surface skimming a coast to coast would be ideal and the hole location wouldn't be a concern, otherwise I'd go in the middle for best surface skimming.

I feel that it is really up to you and what you like the look of better but I agree that if you put it in the middle it would skim better as it would pull from both sides of the tank instead of just the one side that it would be placed in otherwise.
