i finished setting up overflow plumbing for me perfecto tank and there is a problem with my return plumbing. There is a little whole on the return pipe on the elbow right before it shoots the water back into the tank. is this some sort of anti-flow thing? there is a lot of water shooting out the hole but very little coming out of the lockline in the tank. whats happening? do i plug the hole? the hole is on the bottom of the elbow facing down towards the water.

Thats to stop a siphon if the power goes out. It will suck in air breaking the siphon. I would leave them open. Unless you have alot of spare room in your sump for the extra water.

I suspect the hole is to break the syphon when your pump turns off. Without it, the syphon that would develop would drain your display down to where the oultet is.

Generally, the water level in the display should be just above the hole so that you don't get a spray of water out of it. Water is always going to come out of it, it just won't spray everywhere.

I agree with bandsaw--just bend the lock lines so they are under the water.
Then test the system--turn off the pump and check how far the water siphons out into the sump.
This is a simple and effective method of ensuring that you don't drain the tank in a power outage.

Ps bandsaw--nice to run into you here :)

the hole is not in the display but actually behind the overflow wall. so there is no way to increase the water level so that part is submerged. any other ideas on how to stop the jet stream of water busting out of this hole?
