I have a Maxi-Jet 1200 in my BioCube 29. I placed it in the same corner as the stock pump, but facing the opposite direction. When I tilt the head up toward to surface, it creates a lot of air bubbles in the water. When I tilt it down one notch, it kicks up the substrate and creates big craters down the the glass.

What should I do?

Dial it down a bit? :)

I don't have that air tube on because the instructions said to leave it off if you aren't doing an under-gravel installation.

There isn't another way to dial it back? My old aquaclear powerheads had a little lever on the bottom of the powerhead that could control the size of the water inlet through the strainer.

Didn't it come with a control valve that fits on the output side of the pump?

I use MJ-900s in my 29g tanks. I don't know enough about the layout of a BioCube to say much, though. There's no control valve on MJ-1200s or any of their powerheads in that series.

The Rio pump has this valve, maybe you can adapt it for use on the MJ1200. Ask your local fish store if he has an extra one lying around in the store.
