Question 1: I recently picked up some hairy purple mushrooms and a few of the mushrooms are pretty big but they seem "cut" in the middle and alot of little "strings" are hanging from it. Is this normal? I'll take a pic of it when I get home tonite
Question 2: I know this is going to sound weird but whats this orange stuff on my live rock? it seems to be expanding a lot

The mushroom could be splitting. The strings are probably mucous. The orange is coalline algae. Nothing to worry about.

The orange looks more like some sort of sponge to me...

I have orange coraline algae (sp?), maybe the pic is not good, but it looks a little fluffy to be corraline. Maybe its just the pics...I dunno.
If its coraline, its gonna be hard to take off. You have to scrape that stuff off, so if it comes off too easily, its not coraline.

my only concern with the orange coraline is if its good or bad but i guess its harmless so ill let it be. It looks nice :)

If it is orange coraline it is good stuff to have. Coralline is a sign that your tank is doing good. And even if it's a sponge it's still a good thing. They are filter feeders and won't hurt anything. I think it looks nice either way. I agree that the mushroom could be splitting and mucous does sound like what you explained. When you get a pic we could probably tell you better.

It's really hard to get pics of the mushroom with mucous (if thats what it is) but here are the best shots i got.
