I was sitting at home watching the tank last night and it seems that I am getting pretty bored with it. I was thinking about some type of species tank.. any ideas?, interesting creatures?

How long have you been in the hobby?
Either you been in a long time and have done it all.
or
You get board easy.

Try mantis shrimp. Interesting, hardy predators, and a N. wennerae from TBS only need 5-10 gallons. You can also grow corals in with them. You can check out the mantis shrimp board here on RC if your interested.

What fish do you have in there?

I have a 180 with 3x striped damsels, 2 small clownfish, 1 yellow tang and 1 dispar anthias. Several sps's, a few lps, zoas and the usual hermits and snails.. I was thinking either a shrimp tank or seahorse/pipefish setup. I want lots of plants..
P.S. I plan on getting rid of all fish and coral..

Oh I thought you meant a separate tank. If I had a 180 and I had the option I would probably make it a pipefish/seahorse tank too. One of my favorite macros is the shaving brush plants. I might throw in a pair of yellowheaded jawfish if the sand is deep enough (3-6 inches)

Thats sounds like a great option. I might just try it. Thanks for the input.

how about eels, like a snowflake eel...I'm starting a reef and thought it would be pretty cool to have an eel tank
