I have a snowflake eel in the tank. It went through the overflow into my sump in the bottom of the cabinet. I made this top out of eggcrate. It is also cut in half so i can open part of it to feed. It works great. Just thought I would share.

Where did you get the egg crate?

Any lighting store sells it. Home Depot or Loew's should carry it as well. A lot of people put it on the bottom to keep falling rock from causing damage, but I've never seen anyone use it for a top! Nice job! Does it cut down the light noticeably?

I thought I read somewhere that its better to use that silver reflective stuff for lighting. But I also remember reading that the downfall of it was that the silver plastic stuff can flake off....

Just an FYI if you didn't know that already....

russy pelican and djyox hit it right on. I bought it at Home Depot. I checked at the local Lowes, but they only sold it in 25 count boxes. I didnt need that much. And I did use the white due to the silver flaking off. Tomorow I will post pics with the top on and off and the light on. Glad you like it.....

Egg crate is commonly used as a cover to keep fish from carpet surfing. It does block some of the light from spreading through the tank but if your lighting is sufficient the result is negligible.

I did not have time today. I will get the with and without pics tomorrow.

What do you guys think of the way I did the light?

The bar is 3/4" Aluminium bar stock. I bent it to accomadate my needs. I wanted to mount the light so I could move it without takeing it off and on. So I came up with this idea. It works great.

I think the only problem would be using with metal halides. It melts. but for anyone else, it works great. I used to use it on my 75 before I got MH lighting.
