View Full Version : How long can a humu trig, SF eel and lunar wrasse live in 75g?

I am in the process of converting my 75g Australian rainbow fish tank into a FOWLR aggressive tank. I have my heart set on a picasso trigger and i was thinking of adding a snowflake eel and a lunar or banana wrasse (not both since they will fight.) I just odered a wetdry filter rated at 150g and a modded turboflotor t1000 rated at 150g. I plan on using live rock in the filter rather than the bio balls. I also got a nice RO/DI unit and plan on using my existing heaters, lights, hood ect.

Anyways, my question is: How long would these 3 fish be able to live in a 75 gallon? I plan on going bigger but not for several years. My LFS have triggers around 2.5 inches, wrasses around 2" and a snowflake eel around 7". With fish that size, how long before they would get cramped in a 75g? or would they be able to live in the 75g indefinitely?

Thanks for any input.

Untill they die
as long as they are happy and you keep up on the water should be ok but some people are going to be mad at you for trying it just a heads up

I'm pretty good with keeping up on water quality/changes. I do weekly PWC for my freshwater fish etc.

Nothing you listed will get very large, if you run into compatibility problems, it will probably be dished out on the eel. They grow a little more slowly as well, so I'd shop around for a one-footer of so (which is still a quite small snowflake).

lol, any fish can be kept in a tank until it dies!

However, I think you'd be OK for awhile, if not forever. I mean if the snowflake gets to be 30 inches and the humahuma starts pushing 8 and the wrasse gets big you may want to upgrade a couple of years down the line, but you can cross that bridge when you come to it.

The Eel grows fairly fast the first year or two, my Snowflake went from 11" to over 22" the first year, I have had him for about 5.5 years and he is about 32-33" know. I also had a Lunare that went from 3" to about at least 5.5" first year, 3.5 years later close to 9" and very, very active, they need big tanks 6- 8 foot tanks or anything added after might get harrassed to death. Just a though, 75 maybe ok first year if purchased small , but after that these two will be too big/ or not very happy. Humma trigger would be ok for a number of years, they are slow growers, had mine for 5 years now and he has grown about 3 ".

I agree on the lunare. I have all 3 of these in a 135-6 foot tank and the lunare is all over the place. I bought him a year ago and he has doubled in size to about 7". He is highly active and aggressive and in fact have tried to add a fish after him and he harassed it and tried to kill before I could get him out and return to the lfs. It is a great looking and fun fish though, just be aware it will be the last you can add to the tank. A 75 would IMO be too small long term for the wrasse.

The only fish that can remain in a 75 for life is the eel. The picasso will grow slowly and you should be able to have him for a few years before he will need bigger. The wrasse will grow pretty quick and need something bigger in a year or so depending on what size it is to start.

I have had all three fish and I know from experience. Some of you are crazy telling him all three will be fine for life in a 75g tank. For a while yes, life no.

what would be another good long term fish that would go with the trigger and the eel? I'll forget the wrasse if they grow fast?

I didnt think i could house one of those with a trigger and eel... I have always like the coral beautys and the flame angels. If those would work, then i would get one.

Either one would be fine.
