I am looking to buy the TX5 (5 bulb) for my 55 gallon tank.

Should I get the stands, or will the fixture be fine sitting directly on the tank?

Also, with this fixture; will the colors blend nicely in the tank, or will I be able to see the different colors of the bulbs?

Thanks.

SSalty,

You will be fine just resting the TX5 directly on your tank. By doing so you will be able to keep all kinds or corals, including SPS in your 55ga tank.

With the TX5 design, the blending of colors looks great. It is best to make sure the lamps are evenly placed. What I mean by this is to get the best possible blend of color make sure, for example, that all your actinics are not just in the front or just in the back. Here's an example of a good lamp combo.

Front:
1) Aquaz Ocean Pro or ATI Aquablue Special or UVL Actinic White
2) Aquaz Blue Pro or ATI Blue Plus or UVL Super Actinic
3) Same as lamp pos. 1 or for a more white look add a Sylvania 6500K or GE 6500K
4) Aquaz Blue Pro or ATI Blue Plus or UVL Super Actinic
5) Aquaz Ocean Pro or ATI Aquablue Special or UVL Actinic White

Thank you,

Tom

How would you best describe the look of that light combo?

I don't like the look of any "pinkish" color lights. During the day I would like a nice white with a hint of blue. And then for dusk and dawn, I would like that nice brilliant blue color.

SSalty,

I would say the above combo is close to a 14K halide look. With the dusk/dawn look would be "brilliant blue color".

Thank you,

Thanks for the advice.

Where would you suggest I buy this fixture and bulbs from?
