My BTA is spewing a milky substance and making the tank cloudy. Is this a bad thing or something that they do sometimes? I just noticed it, looks like it just started in the past hour. I've had her for over a year and this never happened before. Help!

Mine did this once, and I'm pretty sure it was spawning. I ran carbon and did a 20% water change just to be safe, but the water change wasn't until the next day. Anyway, by the next day, the water was clear again in my 46g, and nothing looked stressed. I have the event on video, but I'm out of town at the moment, so I don't have access to it.

Is it necessary to do a water change?

It's likely spawning, and a water change might be a good idea if the water is cloudy. The gametes will die and can cause a drop in water quality, depending on the amount involved.
