You'll get way better results with propeller-type pumps such as Tunze Streams, Koralia's or modded MJs

koralia model 4? or is that too much?

I had a pair of maximods in my 58, spinning dumas 3004 props. Probably 5000gph. Wasnt too much.
I highly doubt a ckoralia 4 would be "too much" in any tank.

You might want to look into a couple of Tunze nano streams.

Do you have a sand bed? If so a Koralia 4 could be too much. I have a 3 in my 50 and it blows my sand around a little. But if your keeping sps in a bare bottom two 3s or 4s should be fine imo. Just depends on how much flow you need.

I have 2 Koralia 4's in my 60(I think it's a 55, 4th long, whatever.) And they only push the sand around a little, still got to position them better.

Yes I have sand. I do have some an 2 820 seios, and 3 maxijets laying around. I might try to mod the mj and see how it goes, or just use the seios for now.

uber cheap??? a spatula! ;) seriously the Hydor K4's move some water and are well priced. Seio 820s move some water also.. run them in their Tunze style mode and they'll get the flow going well. :)

MOst places are oout of Koralia 4, are 3 koralia 3 enough for a high flow sps 50g tank?

Not even close, IMO.
I'd go with 3 Koralia 4s at a minimum. Even then, you're still at the low end for SPS flow.

I do have a sand and zoas, wouldn't 3 k4 be too much?

Closed Loop?

I want to keep it with powerheads. I thought about a closed loop, but I cant drilled my tank, it's a lot more work, and I think white pipes are more eye catching

Its only 3600gph, and its three small diffuse sources.
I was running a pair of almost 3000gph pumps in my 58 with 4" of sand.
Just stay away from southdown, and use something heavier.

I'm running two Koralia 3s in my 60 gal tank. It took about 15 minutes of experimentation to find positions that didn't "dune" my substrate. With those two powerheads, and my return I've got about 40x turnover... and my BTA and big Torch Coral aren't thrashed at all. If I were doing an SPS only tank I'd try a couple of Koralia 4 units for the bulk of the flow, and maybe a couple of Koralia 2s down low along the back of the tank to mix things up a bit. I'd even try alternating the Koralia 2s every few hours just for S&Gs.

I also have a long tentacle anemone. SO what would be a good turn over in a sps tank?

Rich, i have a similar question. do you think a mag 9(return, 2 zoomed powerheads(for surface aggitation) and a panworld 50PXX-MD30X External Water Pump - 1110gph (for closed loop with no head loss) be enough flow for an SPS tank witha SSB?
