View Full Version : Mincing PE mysis question

I've been mincing my PE mysis since some of my newer anthias still aren't too keen on trying to swallow them whole. I mince them while frozen (really easy that way). I've noticed when I'm done mincing, and then add them to a cup of water to finish thawing, I end up with all these floating pink/orange round dots floating on the surface. It appears to be the part of the PE mysis that gives them their fattiness (you can see it in the thorax section of the whole shrimp). My question is whether I am removing a crucial/nutritious part of the mysis by losing these "dots"? The fish don't seem to want to eat them anyway even if I try to make them sink. Any insight is appreciated...

I had always assumed it was eggs. That is also what I think give them such an oily texture. The oily stuff being the yolk.

Eggs would be kept under the abdomen attached to the swimmerettes, like cleaner shrimp. I think it's their GI tract?
