how would i go about building a simple diy drip system for kalkwasser, and what do i need to mix the kalkwasser, is it just pickling lime and fresh ro/di water ?

Mine is part DIY and part store bought(actually store won as I got it in a raffle). I used primary and secondary IV tubing. The 2nd can wasn't drilled yet a I wanted to verify a single can would work before ruining another one. The flow rate is completely adjustable with the IV tubing. It gravity feeds into the Kalk Reactor which is on a timer to run 3 times a day for 30 mins. I lose about 3 gals a day so it requires a few mins of fill up time every few days. Not bad for a cheap effective method.

Edit: If you use the cans rinse well first, on assembly do not tighten the caps up all the way they require a bit of a vent to them or they will suck in on themselves. It isn't pretty.

so how would i figure out how much kalk i need to drip do you know where i could find the formulas to figure that out? also could i not set it up as a constant drip like one drip every so many seconds or minutes so i dont need a timer or a pump, what do you use to mix your kalk?

Mine is a constant drip that has been adjusted to compensate for evaporation. It just drips more RODI water than kalk water. It has a minute mixture of kalk in the RODI when the recirculating pump isnt running. The Kalk Reactor has a pump on it. Once the pump runs then it is mixing the Kalkwasser and dripping it in. I have it setup as my DIY ATO which just happens to run through the Kalk Reactor. So it kills 2 birds with one stone.

TwoPartSolutions.com I believe has the formulas you would need to use to figure it out.

Give me a few mins and I will photo shop my setup with some captions to better explain it.

You dont need a reactor but it makes life much easier. At least that is my opinion.

for me,

I used a five gal water jug and drilled a small hole at the bottom...

I had some extra parts left over from a power head I bought ages ago (that I never needed until now)

Those parts were meant to be used to attach airline to the pump, instead I used it to attach airline tubing to the water jug... (I made sure to get a tight fit and used silicone)

So, on a daily basis I add about a gal of kalk to the jug and adjust the drip rate with a tiny ball valve I had in my closet full aquarium crap (you could also just pinch or tie the airline)

Anyway, I let that drip overnight and check it in the morning

I think it's pretty safe as there is no possible way to overdose the tank and it's so easy you cant screw it up...
