I'm lucky they do this like clockwork on weekends or I'd never see it in progress.

Only until I viewed this video did I realize how viciously these particular fish yank the anemones tentacles during spawning.
It's also the first time I saw the male's tube extended.
This video also allows you to see the kind of water flow around my gigantea anemone.
some still pics of today's spawning event

while I'm posting these pix the male fish has gone back over the clutch to re-fertilize the eggs. I've never seen that before.
here are stills of that re-visit by the male percula moments ago

Gorgeous clowns! Have you successfully raised any offspring form previous spawnings? Well done by the way!
Very nice! Why do they have to yank the anemone like that?

nice Gary, great job capturing them in the act! Like you said above, it is a great documentation of the water flow around your gigantea, that by itself should be helpful to many aquarists!

these fish have been spawning for a little over a month now. This documents their third spawning. I've not raised any of their offspring.
Thanks for all the kind words. Video and pictures in this thread were taken with a (relatively inexpensive) 3.2 MP Canon PowerShot A510.

eyes and yolk sacs are clearly visible inside each egg. (Compare them to the bright orange coloration of the eggs when first laid.)

no. Maybe someday I'll get back into raising Clownfish but it's not in my gameplan right now.

I'd like to get a closer shot of the larvae developing inside the eggs, but this is about as good as it gets with my current camera.

My Emperor Angelfish has been eating eggs whenever they're left unattended. Tonight and/or tomorrow night most of these eggs will hatch.

They bite at the anemone to make it retract so they can lay their eggs under the anemone. When they are not directly tending the eggs, the anemone will partially cover them so they will be protected.

again- thanks for the compliments everyone.
I've also seen adult Clowns bite the anemone to keep it away from the larvae as they hatch. (Anemones will catch and eat Clownfish larvae.)

How long did the total process take? My clowns are in the act right now and was wondering when they will be done.

the actual act of spawning (laying and fertilizing of eggs) is over with in an hour or so.

there's lots of great FAQ's at the top of this forum tackling the subjects of pairing, spawning and raising clownfish. Here's (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=240158) a link to one that will answer your questions.

Did your clowns take a break when you did the great tank swap?

Did your clowns take a break when you did the great tank swap?
amazingly... no.
I was surprised. Any significant change in anything at all can break up a spawning pair's ryhthms but it wasn't the case with these two :)
