Well i bought me a mille, really did not know what to dip it in so i just used saltwater and blasted the frag off real good outside of the tank and gave it a quick look. I was confident it was in good health and could not see any known pests, it looked really good in the store and it was an ora coral... They dont move much SPS coral at all, some of the frags i took them 2 months ago were still there. SO i tossed it in the tank altho still very nervous about not dipping it with something. I decided to check on it that night to see if i could see anything that i needed to worry about and i found a crab! The last thing i would have expected to come in on a tiny SPS frag.

What the hecks he doing on the coral tho? It sure dont look like any acro crab i have ever seen and its an aquacultured coral so the crab most likely did not come with the coral originally. I removed him, he was stubborn and lost a few legs but hes living life in my other systems sump. Was he a bad guy? I see a few spots in the pic that look like he may have been chewing around some polyps...

Agreed.
I had one that came in on an acro and it loved to munch on my orange monti cap. I crunched it up good and tossed it in the trash.

I just poked him with a tooth pick... be careful not to use too much strength ( while killing the crab) as it will most likely injure your sps tissue...

Not to steal the thread, but how do tell if the crab is hurting the coral? I have a crab similar to that and its been on the sps frag since I got it. I don't see any tissue recession, and all polyps are still there.

does it look hairy? All I have read is that Gorilla Crabs are bad and that's all I need to hear about them in order to remove them from my tank

It looks just like the one in the picture below, but he has been on the piece for about 2 months and the coral still seems to be growing, and no tissue recession (although the color stinks, but thats another issue I think). So I should get rid of it?

I would get it off if it looks hairy. i have seen good acro crabs(i think) and they did not look anything like this guy.

I took him off the coral as soon as i took those pics, i was not gentle about it at all. The frag really looks great, its growing orange tips. Wich ora mille has a blue green body, dark polyps and orangeish tips?
