Looking into a custom 3/4-1 inch starphire build( all around)
Should be more than 60 deep maybe even 70 or more the rest is still up in the air.

Considering 80wx60dx24h.
My previous tanks have been 450 and a 350 but none had the depth i'm looking for.

I did downgrade to a 240 total volume but after a year, it again feels like the tank is way to small and need to upgrade for my sps world to be complete.

I need some opinions in terms of measurements. So if you were building a tank and had only one restriction that being a 400-500 gallon tank, what would yuor dream tank would look like (Measures)

Thx in advance!

manny I would go as big as you can. why the 500/g max? if 80 is the longest then start from there. whats the widest you can go? I also like the height of 30" instead of 24 because of how squat the 24" look on that large of a tank. No matter what, your not going to be able to reach center with out getting wet so might as well go and have fun with it. also I dont think you need to go that thick at all 3/4 is overkill and If i'm not wrong they dont make 1" starfire. I think they two pcs of 1/2" and laminate it.

Joe I do believe that yes they do have starphire now that's 3/4.

Anyways i'm def looking at a 500 max display.
Oh and yes I will have fun with it for sure but don't want to get wet every nigh LOL

I will overkilled it for sure. back in 99 I had a 350 that leak on me and promised myself I would never build another custom w/o at least 3/4. I hit that 350 with some LR and it was really a bummer .

Anyways i will be picking your brains hopefully in the near future as i'm looking at some properties that would fit that baby.
THX.

Ok so I'm leaning towards 80/60 /30
I have pretty much all i need except the location LOL
I'm def staying away from the CL.
Anyways thx for the input I have to check your tank personally to pick your design brain /

You need to go 30"H!!! Here are some aquarium sizes right at 500g, 80" x 48" x 30" = 498g or 96" x 40" x 30"= 498g.

Now if you go with what you want 80" x 60" x 30" = 623g, you are getting in this neighborhood www.oregonreef.com

Joe I'm pretty much sold on the depth but not on the rest just considering the ideas and enjoying the process. This time around all would be planned ahead of time.

I spent almost a year in the process its alot of fun.
Thought about the lighting, I would lite with 4 or 6 lumenarcs

Well Joe I've been considering this tank prior to putting up my current 240 lol

flow tunze x4( currently in my 200)
may include two waveboxes if the tank is 3/4 all around.

As far as equipment this tank most likely will be a GEO posterchild as i'm extremely impressed with his workmanship and customer service.(reactor/kalk- maybe even skimmer if I do decide to go agaisnt my usual and customary that has always ben DD for many years)

the rest is pretty much set in stone.

Lights maybe 4x 400 20 k(or reeflux with supps VHO) with lumens or reefoptix- I just got 3 RO to try over my curent tank and decide.

80x60x27 would be a nice compromise on the height. I have a 84x42x25 that should be here any day now. I considered going 27" on the height, but in the end it really wasn't worth the extra $1200 in cost to me for the extra 2 inches, and I'm to short to work in a 30" tall tank:) Invincibles tank is 3/4" starphire. You may not have an option of going less than that with these dimensions even if you wanted too. Going from 25" to 27" with my builder would have required going to 3/4" form 1/2", and its not as wide as your looking to go.

tetacles ty. that may very well be the dimensions as i'm not sold on more than 30.

80/60/27 sounds great.

I've always wanted a super large cube tank that had an area cut out in the middle of the tank where you could sit and be surrounded by the aquarium on all four sides.
