hey guys, i have a 20 gallon tank and need some flow in it. i have an aquaclear 50 on it right now but its not very powerful. i was thinking of a koralia 2 but it seems way to big for my tank, it will be an eye soar. is there any others that you guys would recommend? i don't really plan on keeping acros, just montis.

I have used Maxi-Jet for years and would highly recommend them. I blow it across the back and there is just enough current to keep all my corals happy

The Tunze Nano-Stream (6041 I believe) is ~$65, but highly regarded for small powerheads.

thanks for the help, i will look into both.

Look at a Hydor Koralia #2. I have a #1 in my 16G bowfront and its king of weak, I will probably upgrade to a #2 soon myself. I have 2 of the #4s in my 100 G and they are great.

they are very big though, such an eye soar.

I recommend the MaxiJet 400, 600, 900 or 1200 depending on your flow needs.

The advantage of the MaxiJet pumps is that they can be side-mounted or back-mounted to a Sure Grip 50 magnet (http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~AF1511.html).

One of the worst things about many powerheads is that they can't be easily or reliably mounted. The Maxi-Jet pumps have grooves on the back and on both sides for attaching to the Sure Grip magnet.

The side-mounting is an advantage because many powerheads cannot be turned a full 90-degrees to become parallel to the glass wall. In the narrow space between my live rock and the glass wall, I am able to side-mount my Maxi-Jet 1200 to create a flow parallel to the glass.

Koralias come with a magnet mount standard, can be rotated in any direction and pump 600 GPH at 5 watts. MJ 1200s do not come with a magnet mount, are power hogs at 20 watts and only pump 295 gallons per hour, they are also almost as big as a K2. I don't see the benefit of more heat generation, and in a 20 G system you will notice the heat from a MJ guaranteed, and less water movement?
Maxijets are good utility pumps for mixing water and cleaning off live rock but they are no match for todays Koralis, Seios, Nano Streams and others. In their day and used on lift tubes for old undergravel filter plates they were the thing to have.
