What filtration methods can I use to get clearer water. I am running a 55 gallon with a 10 gallon sump and coralife super skimmer 125 for filtration and am looking for clearer water. Any ideas?

Your water should be pretty clear with the system you stated. You could always run some carbon. I run a DIY skimmer/ use carbon/ do weekly water changes and my water has been staying really clear. Adding a UV to your system will also help clear up your water, but I'm not a fan of them. :)

How come?

Seems pretty wasteful to me. I can think of a better way to spend $100, but to some, A UV helps them control ich in their tank and clear up their water.... My way of preveting those problems is to QT all fish before they enter your system and to have a filteration set-up such as:

-Good skimmer
-Liverock
-Fuge
-Water changes

In my beginning i had a yellow tint to my water that annoyed the crap out of me....after i got a phosban reactor and added phos remover and alot of carbon my water has been super clear.....1.5yrs later.

Luke what you are describing is the problem i am having and quite annoying.

I am running 5 stage RO.

How much would a used phosban reactor cost?

For a 55g just get a two little fishes phosban reactor for 34 bux and add some rowafos(sp) and a bunch of carbon, and you'll be a happy man. Or if you have any hot filters for freshwater, add one on and put a crap ton of carbon in it and you'll be set.

A phosphate reactor is the most efficient way to run phosphate removal media and carbon. A TLF phosban reactor is only $34. You'll also need a maxi-jet 400 and some GFO (Phosban, Phosar, RowaPhos). You can mix GFO and carbon together in the reactor. You don't need very much GFO since you'll be changing it out every week or two.

PhosBan reactor, carbon in a separate reactor, weekly water changes and I recently started using a filter sock on my return. Crystal clear!

hot = hang on tank......but a normal hot filter like you have will work. Just throw some carbon in there and see what happens. More than likely it'll do the job. If not maybe a phosban reactor is in your future. But if you got it use it first.

Put a sock in it, and amazing things happen. I left the carbon sock in my sump return for several weeks while cycling was underway... it worked wonders!

Just my experience...

I added an ozone setup to my system and now my water stays super crystal clear.A little pricey to get it started though.Luckily I picked a killer deal on a AC2 for like $100 and didn`t have to buy a sperate ozone controller.

i thought phosban lasts a long time before changin it out, i was thinkin bout a month or 2, carbon sure does needs i be replaced bi-weekly for best results. i have phosban in the tlf reactor but wondering if anyone else had mix carbon and phosban togeteher in a reactor?
