I currently am running a ushio 400w 10k over tank right now and wanted to know if for my corals betterment, I should switch over to a bluer light such as a 14k or leave it as a 10k. Im not running any suplementary actinics right now.

Also, slighty unrelated, Ive been reading about sps coloration and the suns uv radiation. So far ive seen it suggestion that a much more vibrant sps has those colors as a uv blocker. Would it be beneficial to run a HQI style bulb with no uv shielding?

If your goal is growth, then leave the 10K. Ya might see better color and the tank might look overall nicer with the 14K.

I can't answer your second question.

No, dont run a hqi without the glass sheild. If you are dead set on giving the coral some uv light, get a cheap reptile bulb or something similar.

So do you know if the uv is/would be a benefactor in the coloration of the coral. I know that even SEs give off radiation, but would it even be possible to see benefits from a reptiles uv bulbs since they are NO flourescents and probably not have much punch for underwater use?
