Looking a little green there. Have you had problems with algae? How long to make all the rock?

Nice. Lots of places for your corals. It will be fun to watch your tank change as you add your choice pieces.
I agree about the algae. It's too bad algae is such a problem. I love algae and would love to be able to have some green in the tank, but algae is usually a sign the water parameters need attention.
Looking forward to watching your tank grow.

it took about a month to make it, then about 8 weeks to cure it. The coraline is growing good - i have one piece that is completly covered. The "green" isn't much. The pic of the emerald is the worse part in the whole tank. I had a bad problem with hair when i first started up the tank - but normal cycle from what i have read.

Your shell bed looks like a Mantis Shrimp layer, sure you don't hear any clicking?! jk I like the nice, open spaces in the front. That tank is going to be sick.

no clicking. i got the shells when i was in florida - thought it would add a nice look to the tank. boiled them, soaked them, boiled them more, then put them in the tank. I am still undecided if i like them or not

what's a good coral to start out with? I was thinking about some zoo's or xenia, but i want to end up mainly SPS so are those good choices?

some mushrooms are a good choice to start with or even some polyps

Nice diy rock. I wish i had the patience to make my own. I would go for a green wall hammer. That was the first major coral i put in my tank and i love it. Adds instant color and is amusing to watch especially during feeding time. It loves to be feed :D

i have been thinking about making more - and working on a pillar or two to see if i can make something different. one thing i would do is make them a bit smaller.

Well it took me about a month to complete this project, with all the other stuff i have been doing this one was always put on the back burner. I am upgrading to MH lights so i needed / wanted a taller hood - that and my wife had a hard time opening the other hood. It was a clam shell design and really heavy.
This one is 18" tall - lots of room inside. I just need to find some quiet fans to keep the air moving.

The old T5 light setup. It worked good for starting up. FOWLR. But next weekend i am getting some coral at the CORA Frag Swap so i needed to upgrade to the MH Lights. Getting the reflectors this week and wiring them up.

what a difference a few months makes.
Since these pics i have
1) Set up the MHLights. I am not running dual 400 watt MH SE Bulbs with DIY Lumenarc Reflectors.
2) Went to the local Frag Swap and spend my paycheck
3) Keep trying to find the best place for things.
4) About a week after putting the coral in to the tank the Anemone disappeared. It was there one day, gone the next and never seen again. I watch the tank levels and all stayed steady so i quit looking
Here are some updated pics
Can someone help me out here. What kind of coral is this one. The one in the center, i know the one in the back is a neon leather
