View Full Version : Is golden Angel reef safe?

I want to get an 2 inch Golden Angel fish and not sure if I can out him in the reef tank. I have both LPS and SPS and a clam as well. Thanks.

Its a risk, as with all angels, minus the Genicanthus sp., that go into reef tanks. They can be model citizens for a long period of time before turing into coral nipping beasts. Its depends on what you value more, the coral or the fish. Having an established reef, I would not put myself in this position.

I would not add the angel to your tank. It will most likely nip at most of your corals.

i have one,he is in my new tank and there is no coral yet.they are SUPPOSED to be on the safer side as far as angels go.i guess only time will tell.i think im more worried about him nipping my clam mantles than my sps.

I have mostly LPS with very little SPS. My golden angel only nipped at an open brain. Since my angel only likes swimming among the rockwork, I moved the brain to a more open area of the tank, away from the rocks, and the angel doesn't go out to nip it anymore.

My emp angel has never touched my softies or lps to date, but i keep him WELL fed and nori is always available for munching.
