Never heard or seen anything about it. Are you referring to banggai cardinals being toxic to other animals, or what things are toxic to BC? Either way, I doubt there's much out there on the topic, since they can eat almost anything and are pretty innocuous.

Hairy mushrooms certainly don't find bangaii's toxic. STUPID MUSHROOM ATE MY FISH!!! Can we say Kalkpaste?

no toxicity found when mine died, and it was floating in the tank for a weekend. corals were all fine

a friend of mine had several fishes in a FOWLR tank for almost a year. after his newly introduced banggais died, the whole tank was immediately wiped out. and this happened twice. could banggais raise water parameters more than any other livestock could? among the casualties were very healthy tangs, clownfishes, etc.

Depends what size tank and how long the fish were decaying in the tank.

I have never seen any study that would indicate that Banggai's (or any other cardinal) are toxic. They can be somewhat sensitive to changes in their environment- I would say its more likely that your friend was having issues with the tank as a whole, and the Bangaii was the first to go is all. Unless youre talking a really small tank, and a lot of cardinals left in there to rot- that would be kinda toxic...

it happened in my friend's more than 1 year old 100gal bare bottom isolation tank that has been used for housing fishes before they went into the main tank. first wipe out was with 8 banggais, they died but didn't rot in the tank, they were taken out immediately right after. still all fishes died along with it. happened a second time with 2 banggais, after they died, all fishes were wiped out again. the only common denominator visible was the banggais. anyway, the tank is up and running again, with some fishes (no banggais), everything is going well. haven't ever come across any article or study regarding cardinal toxicity either, that's why it's so puzzling. i don't think a couple of dead banggais could wipe out all those fishes. will keep you guys posted. thanks for your responses.
btw, just in case any of you were wondering why i'm concerned with my friend's tank, it's because i've been asking him to quarantine fishes for me in that tank before i put them in my tank :) and some of my fishes were among those that died..ouch..

Are these all wild caught banggais?

mine just died, of old age I presume. I had it for over 3 years and it was big when I got it. All I found was the head with no eyes and part of the tail. My cleaning crew got the rest. Nothing else died....

you guys are lucky, your banggais seem to be thriving. yup, i think they're wild caught. the LFS didn't specify if it was tank raised. they were already eating cyclopeeze. what do you feed your banggais?

I think mine started on either bloodworms or mysis, but in the end he ate formula 1 and 2 flake.

could it be that whatever disease/parasite killed the banggais spread to the other fish killing them as well?

Banggai will eat just about anything.
He should get Tank-raised. In this day and age, there's really no reason to get WC. TR are almost always available locally, if you ask around.

Did anyone test the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels either before or after the fish deaths?
