Hey guys,

I'm about to place some orders for candy cane corals for a brand new tank. I'm pretty new to the hobby but I've done the reading and it seems like most people recommend feeding candy canes brines/mysis and/or micro-plankton. I'm interested in also keeping hammer and frogspawn coral and have heard that these coral will also benefit being fed shrimp and plankton.

So we've got that out of the way, now what brands have most people had the most success with? Is it feasible to grow your own? I am not going to start out by growing my own but I would entertain the idea later down the road if it was possible. Also, what methods are best for these corals? Individual mouth feeding or putting the food in the water and allowing the coral to catch is au natural?

Thanks for the help, looking forward to becoming an LPS keeper.

Way to go on the RSM!!!
Have you checked out the RSm forum?!
Plus i have heard that frog spawn des benefit by feeding but I have also heard that all they need is light!
I have not fed it at all.
I use cyclopeeze for the feeding of my Goniopora.

u can raise brine but mysis is a bit harder. And yes most corals do only need light but all euphyllia should be fed.I feed all my torches mysis. You can tell a diff.and they grow faster.Useing just light is like eating bread and water vs.eating meat with high protein

I just bought it yesterday...but I'll be feeding my Frogspawn Coral Frenzy...my Candycane pigs out on Hikari Mysis...and I also feed Hikari Brine shrimp for a bit of variation...and I just bought some 'pink shrimp' a slightly larger, crunchier version for corals...I was planning on offering that up once a week or so...(no brand on the package, sorry).

Ok my next question is, it doesn't seem like my frogspawn is interested in food. I've tried meaty pellet food and actual fresh shrimp bought from the grocery store and cut into small pieces. My candy cane corals eat great but the frogspawn just doesn't grab onto the food. Other than that he is doing great. Any reason to be concerned? Is the guy just a finicky eater?

Dont worry about feeding the frogspawn directly. Candy canes are a diffrent story and are fed Mysis easily. I feed mine the aforementioned Hikari Mysis about twice a week. My branching frogspawns grab cyclopeeze and dts oyster eggs from the water column when it is fed. I just shut the simmer down when I feed microplankton. I hope that helps.
