It was sold to me as lyretail, but I'm not really sure about that. Appreciate if someone could confirm it for me. Thanks.

Looks like a changing to male lyretail. I can't tell from the pic, does it have any large spots on the pectoral fins?

No visible spots on the fins.

My guess would be a female changing to male. I would guess the species is cheirospilos.

Any information on where it was collected?

I've no idea where it was collected. Didn't ask the lfs about that.

"Lyretails" collected from the Indo Pacific belong to cheirospilos. "Lryetails" collected from the Indian Ocean and Red Sea are squamipinnis. Both species have color variants.

You can see some of the color variations mine went through while changing from female to male....

The more I look at the pic the lateral line really looks like squammi.

It really looks like my male lyretail, so it could be a female changing to male.
