this is a 6x6x6 cube, total volume of tank = .9g

filtration/flow : whisper mini filter
light/heat : spiral PC bulb in a desk lamp
stocking list : ??????????? no fish, but we'll put something in there

anyways, here are the pics

here is the initial "will this thing even hold water" test
http://bitz.net/~latazyo/Pics/Aqua/point9/watertest.JPG

and here is the tank earlier today....since this photo I have modified the filter to fit such a shallow tank and filled the tank w/ saltwater and am running the filter to mix it properly

It's still hard for me to visualize the filter.
Can you post a pic of the filter on the tank?
Also what lighting are you planning to use?

WHat kind of lighting are you going to use?

oops, sorry

I use these daylight spiral PCs at home depot, they're 6500K color temp

and I"ll just use a desk lamp that I have..its telescoping, so I can adjust it wherever I need to

I think it would be really cool if you kept dwarf seahorses.

Whatever you choose though it will look cool

If you're going to keep coral, how will provide flow, and wouldn't you need a higher color temperature bulb?

latazyo

6500K is the temp at which photosynthesis is most efficient (actually, slightly less - check out the info on that 5500K bulb people use in their fuges for optimal chaeto growth), higher temps are for our eyes to enjoy the view when we dont like yellow light

that filter is rated for 5-10 gallon tanks, this tank is .9 gallons...that is plenty of flow for some zoos and mushrooms

IM not gonna have any hard corals in here....way too hard to keep parameters stable for those

Did you just cut the acrylic yourself to make the tank? I like the set up a lot, My problem is I never seem to make acrylic look so good when I work with it.

kcp01,

I actually *ahem* found this in my apartment's storage room....I think it was previously used to hold small items on a counter top for sale because it had a price sticker on it

haha

Wow, this should be really cool. I want something small for my desk here at the office (I'm not getting anything done, I shouldn't have fooled myself into coming in on a Saturday). That should be plenty of flow for softies. Maybe a Peppermint shrimp and a scarlet reef hermit would do okay to add some movement.

here is the cube in its "final" location on the top of my desk

the lamp is the one IM using, but the bulb in it is a regular light bulb, I havent swapped a spiral pc in there yet

the dude chillin to the right of the tank is Dana...he just likes to kick it casual like its his job and watch the tank

http://bitz.net/~latazyo/Pics/Aqua/point9/location.JPG

look at the top of the water left center of the tank

there is a constant wave....lots of flow

well I got some stuff in the tank, but adjustments will need to be made

the filter is really high flow and is blowing the anthelia all over the place, so I'll have to move the anthelia to the sand and ditch that big rock for a medium sized one

here is a front view

From that picture i was afraid there is too much flow ;p

I think when the dust settles the light wont look as yellow.

Anthelia grows way to fast for that sized tank. Zoas or shrooms would be more appropriate. Remember that the more colorful/expensive they are the slower they grow ;) .

I've found those bulbs are good for three to six months before the spectrum shifts and they look really yellow. It won't hurt the tank or corals but you may not like the appearance of the tank.

fwiw,

Ya you should add some cool zoas, and mabey upgrade the light

Cool, the size of the tank makes the anthelia look HUGE!

I got a volleyball sized rock covered in anthelia so I broke it into about a dozen frags and threw one in here...if it gets growing toomuch I can just pluck it out and throw it in my other tank

I'll probably glue some GSP to the back and have only zoos in here, maybe some shrooms

the bulb is actually a 5500K bulb, so its gonna be yellow, but I tend to lean towards yellow bulbs in all of my setups anyways

those tiny mushrooms used to be huge and awesome and then they just bleached out one day in my other tank and shrunk down to nothing, hopefully I can bring them back

Im gonna be moving stuff around next week and will fix the problems them

as predicted, evaporation has been a huge ***** on this tiny tank
