BC29 Front Lid Sticking

I just set up my new BC29 last night and the front lid that opens so you can feed the fish sticks and is hard to open. I see where there's a lip down there made to catch on the lid and keep it closed...is that necessary? Can it be cut so it doesn't catch the lid? I just don't want to have to put a lot of pressure on the lid each time i go to feed my fish.

Problem solved! I just used the dremel and sanded down the tabs on the inside of the hood and now the lid/door opens and closes like a charm :-).
