I have a newly established 155 gallon tank that I'm planning fish for. I would really like to have a large angelfish of some sort.

Are any of the large angelfish safe with ANY corals? For instance could I keep a large angelfish with just sps? Just softies? Or even a couple of species of corals? What about anemones? Any particular species of large angel that is safer than the others?

Obviously I want to avoid the ones that will starve in captivity because all they eat are sponges. I don't have nearly that much live rock.

I have seen a lot of conflicting opinions on these guys. Thanks very much for any responses.

in most cases you are playing with fire. I have a majestic in my mixed reef ad he's eaten zome zoas, but not others. He devastated my purple clove polyps, but doesn't touch my LPS (Frogspawn, Torch or Hammers). He was doesn't touch my leathers or brains.

there are quite a few large angels you can generally keep with SPS, its just the LPS can look pretty tempting to some :P

from what i've heard, of the large angels the safer ones are Majestics, Regals and Asfurs and the generally always safe ones are the Genicanthus species.

some people have had luck with emperors and blue face's, and i personally had a scribbled angel who was fine with LPS and softies, its just luck of the draw, if you want a large angel badly, buy the one you want (that doesn't get too big for your tank) and find corals it doesnt eat.

and i've never heard of an anemone eating angel.. maybe i'm wrong i though that was normally only an issue with certain butterflys
