Hey everybody. The only thing I did to my tank yesterday was clean the filter but I did it in old aquarium water like I have for the past year. When I got home from work the entire tank is a thick Milky color. Whats going on? What do I do?

could be a number of things going on. snail spawning? Ca, reactor? refugium macro going asexual? i'm not sure what equip you've got or what inverts, or macroalgae etc....

First thing I'd do is check all parameters NOW!!!!! if all ok I'd do a waterchange and skim very wet for 24-48hrs.

Hm. I currently have nothing in the tank. No snails hermits or anything. I do have cheato but I dont think it does the whole asexual thing. Not sure what it could be. Ill be checking params soon

I'm not sure what it is. Could be a bacterial bloom. I would go a head and do a 25% water change. What filter elements were you cleaning? You mentioned you hve mated perc clowns, is it possible this is male sprem from mating?

sand? Are you power heads maybe shifting? something stirring up the sand bed a lot?
I had a power head move and kicked the sand bed up.
Doesnt sound like it but i thought I would ask

And I assume it cannot be bubbles right. No chance you've acidently contaminated your sponge/filter with say pine sol...

Some things seem so obvious you hate to say them. But I do know of a person who could not get a handle on their ammonia. She religiously cleaned the exterior of her tank with Windex spray...lol

LOL thats so funny. But anyways. No my sand bed has not been stirred and theres nothing contaminatig the tank that I know of. Im very picky about anything going near it. Anyway, I got back from golf practice after school (about 20 min ago) and Its clear again. Its kinda fun to guess whether or not its going to be cloudy. Ill keep you guys posted. It might actually be that the pump for my skimmer is coming out of the water because of the evaporation. I replaced the lost water this morning and I noticed the sponge pre filter was slightly out of the water. Now its back under as of this morning and it cleared up!
