What 250w DE bulb for a 30" deep tank

Hello Guys,

What bulb 250w DE bulb do you recommend for a 30" deep tank ? SPS will be kept in the upper 3/4 top of the tank. I'm thinking of the Reeflux 10k on the new HQI Icecap E ballasts ?

For Ice Cap ballasts, one of my friend recommended the EVC Tech bulb 10K DE for highest par. I haven't had experience with it though.

I use 14K phoenix in PFO pendants on icecaps. I get good growth. I even have purple haze monti growing on my BB (of my tank, that is ;) ) It's a 31" tall tank.

If I had actinics, I might consider a lower K bulb. I'm very happy with my setup though.

Another option is to go with a lower K bulb the first year to grow out your frags if you really need immediate satisfaction, then switch to a higher K.

go with whatever looks good to your eye. I have an icecap ballast with a phoenix 14k on my 10 and it's pretty dim, i'd suggest a mag ballast for that deep of a tank so you can run the bulbs at a higher wattage it will look quite a bit brighter, I love the icecap but my aquamedic heavy old ballast sure had a brighter nicer color thats for sure.

The newer icecap E ballasts are supposed to run the bulbs at a high wattage, if anything i have one Sunlight 250w HQI ballas i can fall back on :)
Have any of you guys tried the reeflux and that deep of a tank ? I initially loved my P14k bulb I have on my prop tank, but have grown tired of some of the colors being washed out due to the strong blue spectrum.

jman, I have the newer icecap I bought it 2 months ago, came in the nice blue enclosed housing, is there a newer version out?
