How long should i run my halides for... I have heard 6 -12 hrs... I will be purchasing a chiller this week or next... If i can control the temp does it really matter how long they run...

I've ran them as little as 4 hrs and as much as 16 hrs and never found any problems with either or anything in between.

IF u can control them temps, there really is no limit but the best is to re-create the actual sunlight. I've read many things that corals don't beneift from any light after 4hrs but they don't hurt either.

i would say at least 5 hrs. i run mine for 5 hrs. but i would say if you have good actinic supplementation than 5 hrs is good. if its not so good then 8 or more hrs is good

I run my halides for from 12:30 to 11:30. Any longer and my corals get upset. This varies for every aquarium though, if you have algae problems then I would run them less.

I was running my lights for 9 hrs with only a 2 degree temp change... Recently i painted the inside of the hood silver instead of white and saw a 3.5 degree temp change... I guess changing the paint color added 1.5 degrees... It looks like there is more light in the tank as well...
