A little bit of history first: My tank is in my basement and I have a significant increase in my pH using an exhaust fan to pull fresh air into the area (room). I do not want to do this on a regular basis as it get's too hot down here in the summer and will most certainly get too cold in the winter. I want to get fresh air to my tank without opening windows.
That being said:
I have been reading about running extension tubing from the skimmers' air intake to the outside of the house. I have an RS 180 with the silicone air inlet tubing mounted on the venturri. I have the adjustment valve removed.
Has anyone extended this tubing for the same reasons and did have any negative effects? Did it have any positive effects? It seems to me that extending this tubing will add back pressure....much like having the adjustment valve installed. It's almost like the extension tubing should be a larger diameter to prevent any 'drag' on the air intake.
I would also imagine the need for some sort of filter (inline or otherwise).
If anyone out there has done a mod like this, I would appreciate any feedback you might have on the subject. Thanks.
