I just received a new Tri-color Loripes and it has an acro crab on it... my first. Typically I dip in 1 tsp Seachem reef dip (iodine) in a gallon of H20 for 5 minutes before introducing to the tank.
Will this hurt my new crab? Any suggestions?

unfortunately dipping usually kills them, some live for me others don't. If you are lucky you'll get the crab out but usually minus its arms and legs LOL It sucks doesn't it!

I lugol dip my acros and the acro craps seem to live. They seem to jump off the acro and I net them out and put them back in the acro once it is done with the dip.
I have heard that some acro crabs are bad though. Just thought I would mention it. I only keep the white ones, the others go in my reefugium

There are some hairy white ones that are bad. The smooth, shiny ones are usually pretty good. The ones I have 3 of are white with a long black line across the front between the eyes, and Ive seen red ones with a smaller similar line. Both smooth and not hairy.

the usual ones that are good are called bandit acro crabs. They have a line across their "face" that almost looks like an old school, around the eyes, burgler mask.

I dipped the colony in iodine up to the point where the crab was. May have missed a "bad guy", but the crab is okay.
He's the banded one you describe. Never moves from his spot in the coral.
