I just put together a 375 and have transferred my purple tang to the refugium for now. The reason being is that I want to add some more tangs. I have a few questions, can I add a chevron, blue hippo and powder blue with the purple. If so, what order should they go in or should I just put all four in at once. Finally, once these are added will I have a problem adding any other peaceful fish i.e. wrasses, anthias, etc.
I have had hippo and PBT in with a pruple. Keep them well fed and they should stay non-agressive in a tank like that. IME tangs only get agressive when they sense other fish as competition for food and room.
I would add them in whatever order you can find quality specimins. I would QT/Isolate them as well.

I'd think about the purple being last due to aggression.

I was thinking purple last and that is why he is in the refugium. However, the refugium is stressing him out, so I would like to get him out as soon as possible. Any other issues with other fish going in after these?

Might want to get your hippo first and add it. Try not to vary too much in sizes. The hippo is generally less aggressive, so maybe start with it, then add your Purple if you are worried about him stressing. I know every fish I added after my Yellow Tang was followed and harassed by him, but in a tank that size you are probably a lot better off.

Thanks for the advice everyone...the plan was to add all of them at once and all the same size. I will look into getting the hippo and chevron first, then get the purple out of the refugium na shortly afterwood put in the Powder Blue.
My purples (all 3 of them) are complete wusses. They don't even look twice at a new addition.
Watch your parameters if you put 4 fish in at once.

Make sure you QT before hand. The hippo and powder blue are notorius for being ich magnets.

Will quarantine for sure...Should I not add all four at once. Maybe, the two hippo and chevron and then the PBT and the purple.

jada - what isze tank are the 3 purples in and did you add them at once?
I wouldn't QT them all in the same QT tank.... unless it is a 125G or something.
I would add them one at a time in the order that you get good quality specimins. My purples, BPT and BPT hybrid haven't paid any attention to any new fish. Keep them well fed with both meat and veggies and their agression should be minimal. Most people have agressive tangs because they are in a reef and they don't feed them enough... then they sense the other fish as competition for food.
I have 2 in a 210 and 1 in a 125. I got them from other locals at various times.

Great...Thanks for the advice...if that is the case, then I should just add my purple into the main tank now. Would you agree.

I have a powder blue tang, hippo blue tang, naso tang and a yellow tang in a 150g tank and they all get along just fine. IF you can put them all at the same time will be a plus but I notice each fish has its own temper. In my case the pbt is the most aggressive one. Oh one thing make sure they have plenty to eat, and they can eat all day long. I usually have 2 rocks with algae in the opposite end of the tank. Good lock.
I have 12 tangs in my 560. all doing well.
10" naso
8" blonde naso
8" red sea sailfin
5" mimic
5" orange shoulder
4"Atlantic blue
3-purple
3-yellow
The only one agressive is the sailfin because he was the first in the tank.

Wow, that is awesome...NYVP - Would you recommend getting the purple out of the refugium and into the display tank...he is really stressed in the refugium...I just don't want him to be become so aggressive a territorial that I can't add anymore.
Thanks
putting them in order is fine . most of the time no matter what you do they need to just work it out themselves. I like adding multiple fish in at once in case one fish takes to picking on someone they have to other fish to distract them.
you can see 9 of the tangs in this picture

Awesome picture...how many fish in that tank? Do you have any larger angels. I guess I could add the purple tonight and them purchase and add the other three tangs at a later date.
How would this work? Sounds like if I keep them well fed, especially right away, they should be fine.

One last question...do I need to add all other fish before the tangs?
I have about 50 fish so far and looking at a few new ones.
I have no angels atm
I best way to add is from least agrresive to most aggresive being last.

Thanks...I am aware of the least aggressive to most, just wasn't sure if that was only for fish in the same genre / species.
Thanks

I added a purple, yellow, powder brown and blue hippo all at once in my 240...all went through QT, and all have been fine with no aggression. I think in a tank your size you could go ahead and add the purple and then add the other three together later...that would be fine. Even if the purple got mad, which one to pick on? :D
I haven't had any real problems adding other fish since then either. Sometimes a minor skirmish, but nothing major.

How's this for a 180 gallon line up. 2-yellows. a powdr blue a purple. a large Vlaminge, a hippo. a red sea sailfin. a bristletooth and of course my huge 4 year old Moorish I got from Ming at Atlantis. Ok so the Moorish isn't a tang. He thinks he is. It is always fun to bend the rules!
