Is there a type of dye or paint that you can use on PVC pipe that is not harmful to fish etc.. in a saltwater tank?

I would think any of the epoxy paints would work. I am talking abou the same stuff people use to build plywood tanks, so it is fish and reef safe. I would paint after you glue everything.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I am building a closed loop for my tank. I was also wondering if I can paint the PVC that will be put in my tank. I believe the back glass (outside) was painted with fusion, but I never used it on anything on the inside. Is it safe to put in the tank?

I did an over the top closed loop on my 10g. Here it is first being filled:

I tested it, then pulled off the intake and two output pipes, let them dry, then sprayed with Krylon Fusion black. Ended up with this:

It's been about 4 or 5 months now and there have been no problems, no chipping, no issues of any kind.

fusion is completely reef safe. Make sure it is dry before putting it in the water and you're good to go!
