A dip is when ya put the fish in a small container that contains freshwater with equal ph and temp as main tank for about 5 minutes. I'm no expert, but this helped me out of a situation recently.

It is generally a process of putting fish/coral into a therapeutic solution for a period of time to cure a problem. The goal is to treat the livestock in a small area that avoids putting "medicine" into the larger tank.
