I started this tank in jan of this year. It’s a 5.5 with 4 x 20 watt coralife screw in bulbs. I’m using an AC70 with the fuge mod and an AC30 powerhead.

I’ve had this red algae all over my rocks for a long time now, and can’t get it to go away. It’s hard to pull off of the rocks, so I can’t get it to leave that way. All my parms are normal, any suggestions as to how to get this algae to go away?

I think the cause of the algae was when I started the tank out, and didn’t know much, I added "reef complete" for about a month without testing for anything it added such as calcium. I don’t know if the reef complete is why the algae started.

Thanks a lot

What do you have for a clean up crew ? A Mexican turbo snail is probably the best indiscriminate herbivore out there. Just one could make a huge difference.

Carbon helps remove organics, might be worth using some in your AC fuge.

You don't mention your source water. Unless it's pure nothing will help.

Agu, thanks for the help. I get my RO water from my LFS. For a clean up crew I have 4 different snails (Im not sure what types, i just got one of ever kind my LFS had) and 2 hermits. None of them ever touch the algae. Im also running a bag of chemipure in the fuge.

I guess I should maybe try to start over with new rock, I hate seeing the algae so much. Thanks again Agu

how are you dealing with heat?

I have a little fan blowing from behind the hood when the lights are on. Also, the room the tank is in is cold. The tank stays at a steady 79 degrees.

Try painting the inside of your hood white. You'll see better reflection back into the water, plus it seals your wood from water damage.
