I bought an Acropora frag (birds nest) from a reef store.
All of the frags I have purchased in the past were attached
to pieces of rock. The base of this frag is seated in (not on)
a rubber plug. The base is well seated in the plug but the
frag does wobble slightly.

Now for the stupid question:
Am I supposed to cut the plug and take the frag out or leave it
with the base in the plug and place it in the tank? It's a small piece
and I don't want to put it in trauma.

That's weird. A rubber plug - are you sure it isn't some kind of plastic? (Well, I guess rubber technically may be a plastic). I've never seen a frag planted on a rubber plug. I guess just treat it like any plastic plug or rock - just place it inside a hole in one of the big pieces of live rock and let it grow over. Your only other option is to try and remove it from the base, or cut it at the base and glue it onto a rock yourself.

sounds like its in one of thos thing that they put roses in to keep the stem wet.I have seen acro frags done like that .You can leave it or remove it or frag it off

Yes, that's exactly what it's like but it's little black plug. I am going to cut open the plug and attach it to the rock with epoxy.
