I have a 45 gallon display tank, 16 gallon sump with baffles and my skimmer is off. I'm using the Herbie method of siphon style return so there are no bubbles in the sump whatsoever. The pump is turned down about half way.

I have 3/4 flex tubing from the pump into a T into two returns in the tank. Every minute or two I'll get a burst of small bubbles into the tank from both sides of the T. The only connections that are out of water and common to both returns are two hose barbs and one threaded connection. I've teflon taped the threaded connection and hose clamped the barbed connection to no avail. I'm convinced I can't be drawing air into those connections.

The 1073.030 pump is at the bottom of my return chamber in 13" of water. Is there any chance that it is cavitating and producing these bubbles? If so, any ideas on stopping it?

How long has the pump been running?

About 3 or 4 weeks. I'm just setting up the tank and have been troubleshooting the bubbles for about a week now.

I would try opening up the valve a little and see if that solves it.
