i understand the only difference between the tunze 9015 and 9010 is the cup size.

the das would probably be my next choice of skimmer if i was to try out a different brand.

the only upside of tunze in their customer service its awesome.

i personally believe either one would serve your purpose.

it would be ford or chevy in my opinion. both good

if its for your 140 then i might steer towards the das ex2

jman77, have you ever owned a Tunze skimmer? Its not that simple (lol). The Tunze is rated for a larger tank and is smaller in size.

I do not believe there is any way that Doc skimmer will out perform the EX-2.... You cant tell me a skimmer that small skimmer will outperform the EX-2. They also rate the Doc for a 300+ gallon tank which is a complete joke.

actually the tunze is an excellent skimmer, judging it by size alone is much like judging a book by its cover:) That being said look at the tunze site for recomendations, the near 300 gallon capacity is for a lightly stocked tank, which almost none of us have. Realistically I would say it is rated for a 150 or less.

The DAS, IMO.

If you were going to match them up, it would be more like the EX-1 vs. the 9015, and I still would take the DAS and save even more.

The tunze master DOC are really more of a comparison performance wise from what I have heard...

The regular DOC is an awesome skimmer, and great for difficult and tight applications, but really can not be compared to a full size well designed recirculating skimmer....

I dont know, I only own the Tunze. I cant compare the two skimmers against each other. I am just saying that the Tunze is way smaller. If a small skimmer is needed then it will perform well. The footprint is tiny but it pulls a lot of skimmate for the size.

i've owned both, definately the DAS,
the main reason being that the 9010 has 650lph of air, where the ex-2 has 1,000lph, and could still be mesh modded for more.
and yes, the dwell time is longer in the ex-2 because you can feed it processing water at whatever rate is good for your tank.
but i do love the tunze 9010 too, that thing is a little skimming powerhouse! but too small for a 140g

Thanks for all the great feedback guys, was just a little worried about having to wait 6 weeks to get the das skimmer from Petorama or orca because of the horror stories posted in the das forum... so far looking like it is das hands down!

Not sure on the Ex-2, but I was told today that they have plenty of Ex-1's in stock at petorama. I would assume that means there are EX-2s as well. I ordered mine today...

I am using a Tunze 9015 right now FYI. I am replacing with the DAS only because the Tunze doesnt fit well in my stupid sump and is currently sitting in my refugium. I am destined to use an external skimmer, so I figured DAS is a good one to try. THe 9015 is excellent so far, but I have heard the 9010 + foam extractor is the best.

I ordered My EX1 on tuesday from Petorama.

Got a tracking # later that day, I chose 2 day air since it was only $15 more and the skimmer will be here tomorrow. That is great service in my opinion.

I got an Email from Orca today they still dont have in the pumps
