Anyone have any old computers or computer power supplies lying around? I'm looking for a couple for a project.

What wattage? I have a box full of them here beside me. Also the pom-pom did not make it. Not sure why as the rest of the softies are doing great.

Wattage can be anywhere between 300-450 would be great.

As far as the pom-pom...that happens; I had that happen to a couple of mine. I'll let you know if I get one attached to a small rock here in the future.

Heck, the other might even be a 286!!! :)

You will probably be topping out with 300s from most people as anything bigger is usually in a machine that works. I think I do have an extra 300 or two if you don't mind contributing to the fund to help me buy a new 500W.

Just out of curiousity, why do you need 300+ watts of power in 12, 5 etc volts? That's a lot of computer fans you could run :)

Working to make a CNC-Foam mill and CNC-router. I need the power supplies to run the steper motors, etc.

A 250-300W PSU will work fine for a foam cutter (unsure on the router) I built one a while ago for RC Airplanes and it worked just fine with a small PSU. Unfortunately I threw it away before moving here.

If no-one can find a PSU for you I probably have a spare one sitting around. I tossed most of my computer parts in the move, but I probably still have one in a box.

Good luck finding chromium wire. I used twisted stainless steel and it worked decently, but I would have preferred chromium.

Chromium wire is sold by lots of laboratory supply companies (it's often used for innoculating loops etc.)

Let me know how much (length) and what diameter you need and I can see if I have some laying around.

As far as size....I'm thinking 0.010" (30 AGW) or 0.012" (28.5 AGW) or something similar. Initially, I think the length I would need would be no longer than 36". If you have any around this size lying around, please let me know.
