View Full Version : BC29 Up and Running!

Well, our BC29 is finally up and running! I finished filling the tank and turned the pumps on last night. I did take some pics that I will post later. I have a question, does the stock pump seem noisy? Mine has quite a little hum to it. Also, on some parts of my sand bed there is a brownish silt...is this just from the aquascaping and will eventually disappear once I add a clean up crew to stir things up?

I just set up a new tank with black sand. This means that I can see everything on the sand bed.... My rock let out a lot of stuff onto the sand bed. I think most of it is worm crap and other organics coming falling off of the rock.

Maybe this is what you're experiencing?

or a diatom bloom.

Nope, not diatoms...I know what they look like, this looks more like dirt so i think what Rousseau said was right as i can see some of it on the rocksa as well. Any way, here are some pics...let me know what you think so far!

Yup, I already have a skimmer...a Tunze 9002. I haven't ran it yet because I don't think there's a lot to skim right now...probably in a couple of weeks I'll start it up.

I have a BC 29g, get the tunze. With a little sanding to the lege it fits like a glove. And it pulls some nasty junk out. If you dont want to mod it, (ive never tryed this skimmer) but others have and they say that the new BC29R is a good skimmer.
Hope that helps you.

Well, my wife and I just finished installing the Nanotuners 4.36 light mod today. We also added a small piece of live rock covered in coralline to help jump start the process for the other rocks ad we couldn't resist adding 1 small zoo frag and a small yellow polyp frag (I promise we'll wait another 3 or 4 weeks before adding another coral...lol), I know the tanks been up and running for less then a week but they are all open and healthy looking. Here are some more pics...

Hey your tank looks great, I couldn't help but notice that your aquascape looks very similar to mine in my 24 gallon nanocube! I love the look. And nice zoos

yeah, I wanted something with lot's of shelves and places to stick corals but I also wanted something with lot's of areas that the flow can get to.

I think you got a lot of both. Rock work looks great. Looks like you either have a natural eye or spent a lot of time on the rock.

I just set one of them up at work, and your aquascaping gave me an idea or 2. thanks. It's gonna be a coral sale tank. I'll put a couple pics up when we get a couple more things in it

Lytehouse I think it's a bit of both. I definitely had an idea of how i wanted it to look and i had 55lbs. of live rock from my old tank that I was curing and just took each piece out, set them on a towel in the livingroom and cherry picked each rock and assembled the formation outside before I put it in the tank and once I got it the way I wanted it I assembled it in the tank. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out and can't wait to start stocking corals and fish but after a couple of weeks the first thing I've got to do is get a clean up crew :-).

goalieman92 glad I could give you a few ideas...that's exactly what i did too. I had a vision of what i wanted and then just took an idea here and an idea there from some other aquascapes I've seen on these forums and incorporated them with my vision and you can see the end result.

To all who have responded to this post thanks for all the kind words and I'll keep updating as the tank progresses.

LOVE that aquascaping! It looks like the ruins of some ancient temple or something. Great work!
