Hello. I'm currently using 2 250w 12k refflux bulbs. I love the color, my softies and fish love it and I like the fact that I don't have to wear sunglasses in the same room as the tank while watching TV. I am starting to put SPS and acros into my tank and was wondering if everything would do better under 10k lights.

Thanks

I liked the Reeflux 10000K but not without T5 blue supplementation. The 12000K's look nice alone. I dont think you will like the 10K's if you really like the 12K's. Are you using any flourescent supplements?

Yes, I'm currently running 1 65w actitic bulb with my 12k's.
Again---I really like the look and brightness, I was just wondering if it would help the SPScorals

i was thinking about getting the Reeflux 12K but would not use any supplements. DO you find this bulb yellow at all without supplements

honestly --no--. The color is nice and blue..I use the supplementary bulb just for the corals to have soft light 1 hour before and 1 hour after the main lights... I still keep the actitics on along with the main bulbs. My thinking is that the corals will benefit from the different spectrums of lighting.

The 10K's do have just a hint of yellow tinge to me. But I am using magnetic ballasts so on Electronics they may look bluer. They do look nice with a good bit of blue T5 for help but I dont think 1 65 watt PC would do it.

The 12K's have a nice blue tint but not a ton of blue like Phoenix. I wouldnt have to have blue flourescents to be happy with them. Again, thats on a magnetic HQI ballast. On electronic, they should be bluer still.

Thanks. I think I will stay with the 12k's. I'm using a mag ballast. the color is nice...

My original question was---
Would SPS and Acros do better under a 10k light or a 12k light.
They will be placed 1/2 tank and higher .

In terms of coral health, I don't think they're going to care about the differences in spectrum between those two bulbs. I do think they may care about PAR though. Whether the 12K is enough or not will depend on species and distance from the lights I think.
