trigger feeding

I have a new picasso in QT that keeps going to the top of the tank and hitting the water as if he's feeding (almost like he's biting bubbles)

so I figure he's hungry, but when I go to feed him he just hides

is he hungry or is he just screwing around?

Im gonna offer him some squid tonight
