I found this hitchhiker yesterday. What kind of crab is this? I thought it was an Emerald Crab, but with the markings on it, I am uncertain. It even looks to have a tail of sorts. Check out his back...

Probably need more than an hour to get a response. It looks bad to me. I would put it in the sump.

Crabs are hard to ID at the best of times. See if you can remove the crab to a small container and get some clear, detailed pictures of the front and underside of the crab - someone will need to see its eyes, claws, etc. to even begin to attempt an ID.

This is the type of photo I usually submit when asking for an ID - when I found this little guy I took four or five, all of different angles, and still no one could ID the species. Here are two of them to give you an idea what I mean. The others were of the crab's back, side, and underside when he was all tucked up. He's a Xanthid, but that's all I know - he could be one of hundreds of species.

I believe it was LeslieH (invert expert here on RC) who said that there are many, many crabs that science hasn't even cataloged yet - they're not collected often, and spend most of their time hidden from view so they may not even be photographed. The closest you can probably hope for is a general category, not a specific Latin name, and maybe info about what this type of crab will eat.
