Hi folks,

I just purchased an RC80 for my 54g tank, It should be here Thursday. I'll be replacing my current external skimmer, which has a very different setup. I'm a bit lost as to how best to plumb the skimmer. I have 1" inlet/outlet fittings on my sump, but most likely will need to change one of those out to .5" I think. Does anyone have any pics of an external RC80 setup they can share? Also, I'm looking at an Eheim 1048 pump to feed the skimmer.

Any advice is appreciated!

The best way to plumb it is to have the exhaust flow over the sump wall and drain into the the sump above water.

The feed pump will only need to pump 1.5-2 times your system volume through the skimmer. You can measure this by filling up a gallon jug and timing it.

Here is my RC180

Thanks, that looks awesome! Do you have any close up pics of the input and output lines coming/going to/from the sump? I'm still not 100% sure how to plumb this thing.

You can see both the itake and the exhaust in the picture.

The intake or feed is up top. I don't use a pump. I feed it from my drain. The exhaust is the pvc plumbing that comes from the bottom of the skimmer and goes over my sump wall. It then terminates above water :)
